新年快乐,蛇年有财富 (HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR)
February 15, 2013
Firstly, HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR to all you readers out there (not many, but thanks to the few of you)! Here's how my CNY went, how was yours? Let's not forget, the greetings that we give to everyone when we go house visiting.
Here's some of those that I remember from all my years of education plus my chinese upbringing (how pathetic my knowledge is). And some which I found off mr. google, those that sound more bombastic and deep. When you go visiting, you always have to find a suitable greeting for the person you're meeting. Like when the person's sick, bless them with good health, if the person does business, bless them that their business would blossom, you get my drift. Showering you with some help for CNY greetings!
新年快乐 (xīn nián kuài lè, happy chinese new year),万事如意 (wàn shì rú yì, succes in all things you do) ,心想事成 (xīn xiang shì chéng, may all your wishes come true) ,学业进步 (xué yè jìn bù, progress in studies),步步高升 (bù bù gāo shēng, make steady progress - normally for people who are working),生意兴隆 (shēng yì xīn lóng, prosperous business - for people who have their own business),财源广进 (cái yuán guang jìn, wealth pours in from all direction ),吉祥如意 ( jí xiáng rú yì, good fortunes as you wish),龙马精神 (lóng ma jīng shén, spirit of the dragon and horse - a saying for good health),身体健康 (shēn ti jiàn kāng, enjoy good health),平步青云 (píng bù qīng yún, have a meteoric rise - used for promotions during work).
So here's a few chinese belief that I know of, some of which I only learnt in the recent years. Pay up all your debts before CNY comes, so you wouldn't owe people big debts during the whole year. Keep loads of money in your wallet on CNY eve, so that throughout the year, you would have a lot of money in your wallet. And, for people who don't work or go visiting, you can stay up on CNY eve, so that your parents would have a long life (hardly do people do that anymore because it's just so tiring). Also, the common things like, don't curse and swear during CNY.
And the most important things for kids, don't be too calculative about the money in the red packets that you receive. It's really not about the amount that you receive, it's the blessings that you get. I know, everyone wants money, but as much as you're taking money, your parents are giving them out. So, it's not about the amount of money you get, but the amount of blessings you get. Always visit with a joyful and sincere heart, and the blessings you get will get you smoothly through the year.
Outfits for CNY! Wear something more formal and less revealing whilst visiting family and relatives, only because it's a form of respect. Wear something more casual when visiting friends, because, they're less likely to bother what you wear.
