Once again, it's one of those #throwback posts, which I have to buck up for. These memories are gold, and they should stay gold on paper as we move on with life. Anyhow, these moments happened in April, where many birthday celebrations happened.

First up, birthday celebration for boyfriend's grandma and cousin, took place at Holiday Inn Atrium, Melting Pot. Definitely, I'm grateful for the birthday celebration that I get to spend time with his family, honestly though, the food there is pretty bad.

I've actually been to Melting Pot to have it's buffet in the past, however, years gone by and I haven't visited it again. But this recent trip there reminded me of why I haven't gone back in years. Asides from the salmon sashimi that is average, everything else there just wasn't up to standard. Every single food we had on our plates weren't appetising. The meats were tough, the veggies were hard, the pasta was stuck together with bad sauce, you get my drift yeah?..

All in all, I'd have to say, thank god the company we had that night made up for the bad food served, I've always enjoyed the company of boyfriend's family, and always will.

In celebration of Cuiling's birthday, we had a surprise planned for her, half successful, half failure, what matters is we had fun! Our initial plan to meet for dinner at Marché at Somerset 313 fell through when they arrived there facing a long queue. Plans had to change really quickly, so we settled for CoCo Ichibanya down at Basement 3.

I'm not a huge fan of Japanese curry, so I'm no expert at telling you whether it's THE BEST japanese curry in Singapore, all I know is that, it is pretty good. The outlet at Somerset 313 is pretty small and cosy, right near the escalator that comes down from Bread-talk, so if you plan a surprise here, note that it's an open area shop, and if your main lead doesn't have his/her back towards the escalator, the surprise will flop.

Back to the main topic of the food, time for rating.

Taste: 7/10

Price: 7/10

I gave it 7 because ultimately taste is up to you to decide, CoCo Ichibanya allows you to choose your spiciness level, the kind of rice you want, the portion size and your side dishes. Which means, choose what you want to eat and have it customised to your taste buds. I wouldn't say it's cheap, and neither is it too expensive, beef curry rice with set was what I ordered and it costed about $18.

It's amazing how our friendship has lasted this long. Just a short introduction to 1st time readers, these amazing people were people whom I grew up with through a church organisation I was in for about 11 years. Through my last few years in the organisation, we grew a lot closer, and I'm honestly touched how this friendships continued.

We've been through the good and the bad, and through everything that we went through, it made our friendship stronger. The good memories revolved around the camps that we planned and carried out, the nights we stayed up till wee hours, woke up looking zombified, bathed in ice cold waters (screaming our lungs out) and practically every single bit of the camps. For me, a couple of slight wrong moves in life wavered these friendships a couple of times, but the past is the past, and now we're stronger than ever. When we were all much younger, the older people told us that the friendships we build in this organisation would be friendships that last a lifetime.

I strongly agree.

So these were my friends since young, I watched them grow up, they watched me grow up, we all grew up together, witnessing our most unglamorous days, and now feeling proud for each other's achievements.

To friendships that last a lifetime. Cheers!

Growing up

It has been a long time since I've written a personal take on life issues, meeting up with my best friend, Amelia recently has triggered the need and want to talk about growing up.

Just a fair warning, the rest of the post is mostly my views (typical girl stuff), and loads of ranting, if you're not too interested, time to blog hop to someone else!

Ame says, growing up makes you lose more friends than you can ever count, more than half the friends you've once had would probably have stopped contacting you, or they just contact you once a year maybe. We realised that there friends whom you have to distant yourself away from only because they aren't good for you, they are the ones who stop you from growing up. Growing up thins your crowd of friends, I agree.

In my point of view, the ones that stay are the ones that you think are beneficial to your life, they've been someone who made a huge change in you, and they are the ones who will be there for you no matter the time of the day, no matter the issue you're facing. These are the people who will analyse situations with you, tell you the kind of trouble you are in, be straightforward with you. You choose your friends, and honestly, as you grow older you might even lose a few closer friends because when you end up on a different path in life and your views differ, some times everything might just not work out. Life is as such, we might hate whatever that comes, but we move on, because one day, everything might work out once again.

We treasure the people we love because as each day passes, we know the time we have together becomes lesser, with jobs and relationships, the time left to spend with people we love just seems too limited.

This best friend of mine, Ame, we've been through so much, and growing up leaves us with the distance (physical distance), and somehow it made me treasure our friendship more. Every time she gets back on a holiday, I would try and spend as much time as I can with her, and often we're left sitting somewhere talking about life, changes, future and more than often, our past. So many years has passed, but I recently found out, we're finally on the same page of life, we finally see things the same, I'm not growing up alone from the rest of my friends. I'm glad that we never run out of things to talk about, that is what the best of friends do, talk about everything under the sun, share life stories, analyse life and plan about the future (not to forget, GOSSIP).

Growing up brings us closer to some, and further from other.

The life of a 21 (and one looking for a job). All the time in the world gives you the opportunity to think about everything in life. What you have installed for your future, what you did in the past, the things you've learnt, and for me, whether my certificate would bring me to my first job and whether it's what I really want in life. Everything becomes real when we grow up, the need to join the rat race, and the 'want' to peel away from the rat race and make it big.

Best's 21st at Kith Cafe

A super back-dated post (best's back in Perth already) but, my best friend came back for holiday from Perth, and we finally met up! Celebrated her 21st birthday at Kith Cafe, Robertson Quay. Apparently, on her 21st Birthday, she decided to surprise everybody by being back her in Singapore, which I only found out from Instagram. Being out of town on a holiday made me miss that absolutely touching moment, at that particular point in time, I was super upset that I wasn't in town to celebrate her birthday.

Fast-forward to me being back, we met up the weekend I touched down after my 2 week holiday and went for brunch. Sorry for the lack of food pictures, I gobbled up my food when I got it because I was too hungry, after checking instagram, I realised my bestfriends didn't take photos too.

The food there was pretty pricey and honestly, not as good as places like Hatched even. The robertson quay branch was small and seating was only outside, table was honestly tiny and could only seat 2, even though combining tables was suppose to make it bigger, the plates were obviously huge as well.

The menu was on this huge blackboard at the counter, which makes it a little tough to check the menu out, not to forget, the HEAT you can feel whilst ordering your meal, is totally insane! I do pity the waiters and waitresses there because that place literally does not feel like it has ventilation on the inside! Then again, maybe the other outlets might be better.

Happy 21st Birthday Best! (Belated, OVER belated) The past half a year was probably the worst period you've been through, the goodbyes that you've said, the getting used to a new place and everything else. I would like to say that "I feel you", but I honestly don't, I haven't been put through what you've gone through, all the heartbreaks, all the roller-coaster rides, just here to let you know that whatever you're going through, I'll always be here for you. Although you're in another country, we always have Whatsapp and FaceTime, I would always hear what you have to say. Through the quarrels and the fights, our friendship has been kept strong, like what you say, "tough love is true love". It makes me happy that we still have random chats through whatsapp, because the distance doesn't stop the friendship. Stay strong best.

P.S Cafe

Met up with the girls when I came back from my holiday weeks ago. No idea why, but we decided on an expensive meal at P.S cafe. It's probably the fact that we've all graduated, and I guess your spending power increases when you have a job (although I don't, I only have my boyfriend). It's fascinating how time passes so fast, how the topic of conversations change so quickly as well.

Being art students, we used to bitch and moan about how tough being an art student was, how school was fun, but kind of sucked at the same time. Our love-hate relationship with lecturers, friends, and even school management (everyone seems to have problems with school managements). Growing up, happens so quickly, too quickly, there isn't even enough time to really stop and think, what you want in life, what went wrong in life, what could be done better, just millions of questions that could be asked, just does not happen.

I do admit, the burger is really fantastic. I'm a lover for beef, although I eat really small portions at a go, and this burger, served with wagyu beef, is just delicious. The dip for the fries had a tinge of lemon, not too sour, made it the BEST dip.

P.S cafe at Dempsey has the best atmosphere, if you're looking for really good food, do check them out. Here is a link to their website, P.S Cafe. If you want to know the range of their food, it's about $24-$30+ SGD, their food however, it's definitely worth the money.

And, just so you know, I'm NOT paid to promote for them, I just think people should know what's worth their money and what isn't worth it.

That aside, after dinner and catch up with my good friends, it was time for desserts at Ben & Jerry, loved the atmosphere there, with the outside swing seats, which we didn't get to sit in because we were busy beating each other's asses at monopoly deal. Only sat in it to take pictures after the shop closed.

What I totally love about my friends is their sense of humour, and the fact that my boyfriend is able to communicate with them. I guess a little humour goes a long way, also, it's the best way to break some ice. That's also why I love this bunch of friends, they made me a more humorous person, a more independent person, they made me who I am now. 4 years was long way to go, and throughout the tough years, they were there for me.

Working life is going to make everything different.
